Exploration USA Weekend

Scholars met in the spring of 2023 in Memphis to learn about American history and for intergenerational bonding.

In April 2023, Ashinaga USA kicked off the first Exploration USA Weekend! This year, Scholars met in Memphis, Tennessee to see more of the country where they are studying. They visited the Civil Rights Museum, played mini-golf, and had dinner together while watching the film Hidden Figures. Two Ashinaga Graduates acted as leaders of the trip, organizing the itinerary and helping the younger students with their travel.

One of the Scholars who went on the trip reflected:

Reuniting with my Ashinaga US family is always a nostalgic and happy experience. During this wonderfully planned exploration weekend, thanks to the US Ashinaga coordinators, I had an opportunity to meet the new scholars for the first time despite covid delaying this encounter. No doubt, I will come back next year to experience this great social environment if another opportunity comes by.

Ashinaga USA Scholars study at universities across the country. This means they rarely get to see each other in person. While the Scholars work closely with each other during Preparation Year, it is also important for them to connect with Scholars of older and younger generations. Some Scholars also have never seen snow, or the Atlantic Ocean, or other significant cultural and historical sites in the USA. We are so happy to provide this new opportunity for our Scholars!

Stay tuned for Exploration USA 2024!
