Arok awarded the Internship Grant to intern at Histoto Limited in Kenya

I had an opportunity to do an internship at Histoto Limited in Kenya this summer where I received practical experience in economic consulting, with a focus on market research, report preparation, and presentations. In addition, working directly with experienced mentors and colleagues helped me improve my research and communication abilities while applying academic knowledge to real-world problems. This experience not only improved my understanding of economic consulting, but it also gave me the practical skills and confidence required to excel in the industry.

My most significant accomplishment during the internship was leading the economic impact analysis for the Kipevu substation project. The Kipevu substation project was an important endeavor to improve energy distribution and stability in Kenya, particularly helping the coastal region. The assignment required substantial investigation and analysis of data. I took the initiative to go deeply into both quantitative and qualitative factors, ensuring that the analysis was comprehensive and actionable. During my time on the project, I submitted several ideas, the most of which centered on improving cost-benefit analysis and effect predictions. By using data-driven methodologies to measure economic impacts, I hoped to quantify how the Kipevu substation may help businesses save money on electricity and increase overall productivity. In addition, I provided assessments that highlighted the substation's importance in strengthening Kenya's energy infrastructure, which would help with future economic planning and policy suggestions. In addition, I was responsible for delivering the findings to senior management. The CEO and supervisor's positive response to my presentation, as well as their subsequent execution of several of my ideas, for example my findings for the benefit cost of the Kipevu project, reflected an important milestone in my internship.

I am profoundly grateful to Ashinaga-san for their generous support. This experience has been groundbreaking, allowing me to apply my academic knowledge to real-world tasks while learning vital professional skills. The financial support not only provided me with practical experience, but it also helped me lay a solid foundation for my future profession, notably in economic consulting and hopefully in rekindling the economy of South Sudan in the future.  Your generosity has motivated me, and I am determined to take use of the chances you have provided. Thank you for your investment in my education and professional development.
